Being initially drawn by the shadows of trees she observed in the grass, she spent months studying a method that didn't present the chosen subject as a 2-dimensional representation on canvas. This way, the chosen subject transforms into an image. This is especially true for living things or those that will perish like fruit or humans. Alexa's painting style has an ephemeral quality, and all that remains of Alexa Meade is her photograph. Both the painting and photographic techniques are so closely coordinated and result in a flat, two dimensional space, which achieves trompe-l'oeil. In this, the third dimension is discernible only in specific areas, such as near the eyes, or near hair. Sometimes, Meade integrates her painted models with the 3-dimensional world around them, allowing them to interact within the self-created universe. By doing so, Meade has dissolved the boundaries between painting, photography and the performance.
